Twitter

How many fingers and thumbs does it take to hold and swirl a wine glass while sending a tweet? As I found out recently, it’s a lot harder than it sounds! Many of us in the wine world like to share our wine experiences via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc (as this shameless self-promoting link to my first wine video proves!) and usually we do so surreptitiously while trying not to appear rude. However, the other week I attended a tasting where not only was tweeting not considered rude, it was required!

Wine Communicators of Australia recently hosted a ‘Tweet Up’ Read the rest of this entry »

I was recently invited to a lunch hosted by Riccardo Prosecco, and thought it was the perfect opportunity to make my first video! So instead of me telling you all about Riccardo Prosecco, I thought I’d let Riccardo Tomadin tell you himself!

What are your thoughts on Prosecco? Please leave a comment!

Hope you enjoy the very first Wine Passionista video!

The group of ARSEs!

On a recent Sunday in Central London a gathering of an unusual kind took place. Well, the gathering itself wasn’t strange, it was a group of wine bloggers, but the impetus that brought us together was a secret – literally! Andrew Barrow, author of the blog Spittoon, contacted us through Twitter to invite us to ‘Andrew’s Really Secret Event’ for which he used the acronymic and comically jeuvenile hashtag: #ARSE.

Andrew revealed the location of our meeting place, but intriguingly mentioned that we would then be moving on to another even more top secret destination for a tasting (for which we all brought our own secret bottle).  None of us had any idea which other #ARSEs would be joining in, but as we met for a bite to eat and of course, the requisite bottle (or few!) of wine, the secrets began to unravel… Read the rest of this entry »

With Jimmy SmithYou like wine.  You enjoy it with a good meal and you have fun trying different wines from different regions around the world. You may even be curious to learn a bit more about why you like what you like, so why not take a course?

If the idea of taking a course brings back memories of hours of long study and cramming for exams, don’t worry, because after all, this one is about wine! How many of your professors handed out eight different wines at the beginning of each lesson?  This is a course you’re going to like…a lot!

I’m always interested to know how people learn about wine and when I mentioned this to Jimmy Smith, he invited me to join him at his newly opened West London Wine School for one of many courses he offers – this particular one pitted the wines of France against the New World…who do you think won?

An array of bubbly to start the eveningAn evening of food and wine is always a good idea!  And when it’s one with really incredible wines that most of us aren’t drinking every day, shared with new friends over food that has been carefully prepared and presented it’s a night to remember!

I recently experienced such a night.  Tasting and Dining London is a relatively new social group with a focus on decadent indulgence into all that is gourmet.  They arrange dinners and a variety of fun events which are a fantastic way of meeting new people in the comfort and safety of a fabulously crafted evening.

Guillaume Raffy and Jibrane Dahha are the gastronomic geniuses behind the group which developed from the shared passion of two friends for everything involving inspired food, the best wine and the cultivation of camaraderie.

The night I joined them, we tasted (and drank!) over 10 different wines – from sparkling to dry to sweet!  Check out the photos of all the bottles on my Wine Passionista page on Facebook.  The venue was a spacious loft near London Bridge, the Chef was from a renowned gastropub in Chiswick and the wines were a fine and varied array of interesting choices, including a 1999 Chateau Brane-Cantenac from Margaux and a magnum of Sarget de Gruaud-Larose 1997.

I highly recommend you join them for an upcoming event soon!  Check them out on Facebook and see what they’ve got on the calendar this month.

P.S. For those of you outside of London, have you been to similar epicurious evenings in your area?  What has been your experience?  I look forward to hearing all about it!

There’s always time for wine!
