Fun, fun, fun! Rowan Gormley is such good fun! The soft-spoken South African (not British, Joe! ;)) entrepreneur behind NakedWines.com has a sharp mind and a quick wit and if you missed it live, don’t miss the replay!
The Naked Wines concept is simple: customers (called Angels) put money (usually $40/£20) into their accounts each month which is used to fund up-and-coming winemakers, helping them with every aspect of bringing their wines to market (even designing the label) and in return, the customers get the opportunity to help select the wines, get direct access to the winemakers (online and in person), not to mention great discounts.
Before creating Naked Wines, Rowan worked with Richard Branson and started Virgin Money and subsequently, Virgin Wines. You’ll hear Rowan share the best piece of entrepreneurial advice he received from the Virgin mastermind – and if you’re in the wine business or thinking of getting into it, you’re going to want to hear this.
Rowan is always on the look-out for the next Naked Winemaker who he can help bring their wines to market, so click this link if you want to recommend your favorite winemaker.
The wines we drank on the episode today were:
Rowan: Mauricio Lorca Torrontes, 2012, Argentina
Joe: Kilicanoon Killerman’s Run Riesling, 2012, Clare Valley, Australia
Moi: Montinore Estate, Estate Reserve Riesling, 2010, Willamette Valley, Oregon
Time for another glass of that Riesling!
